‘Avenged’ Star Amanda Adrienne Talks ‘Badass’ Role And Filming Experience [Exclusive Interview]

Amanda Adrienne plays the role of the protagonist, Zoe, in the movie “Avenged.” The actress spoke about her experience while filming the movie in an exclusive interview with International Business Times Australia.
“Avenged” is the story of a deaf girl who is assaulted by a group of men she encounters, while travelling to meet her fiancé. The assault leads to her body being possessed by a vengeful spirit of an old Apache chief. The movie features the actress in several action sequences, as her character goes on to hunt the men who wronged her.
Talking about the action sequences in the movie, Amanda Adrienne described the scenes as “challenging” but also said that she felt “proud” when she saw the final fight scene involving her character. The role of the main villain, who is also seen in the final fight scene, is played by actor Rodney Rowland.
“I actually look pretty badass,” Amanda Adrienne said about her final fight scene. “Poor Rod had to lift the weight of a real chainsaw with one arm over and over again. Take after take,” the actress said.
Another fight scene in the movie required the actress to jump onto a moving truck. Describing the difficulties while filming the scene, the actress said the weather was so hot and windy that it made filming difficult. But the director, Michael S. Ojeda, knew exactly what he wanted in the scene. “Eyes wide, eyes wide!” The director yelled during the scene and Amanda said that she responded with “I can’t. The wind is blowing the contacts out!”
Amanda Adrienne said that the director did not want to make just another horror movie. “He wanted to make a horror film to be remembered,” the actress said. The actress also said that she learnt a lot from the other cast members in the movie and said that she “can’t sing their praises enough.”
On the day of a brutal scene involving Amanda Adrienne was filmed, the actress said that the crew was “particularly sensitive and protective.” The actress had to ask of the director not to have people rush in to check on her after every take.
Answering a question about whether it was the Apache spirit that was looking for vengeance or if it was the girl zoe, the actress said that it was a combination of both. But the actress also felt that although the movie is all about revenge, she saw that her character and the Apache spirit were driven by love. Zoe was driven by her love for her fiancé and the Apache spirit was driven by his love for the Apache people, the actress said.
The Apache spirit that possesses the body of Zoe in “Avenged” is based on a real historical figure known as Mangas Coloradas. The Apache war chief of the 19th century had fought both the Mexicans and the U.S. troops. One of the scenes in the movie talks about how the war chief died.
“When I researched about what went down between Mangas and the U.S. government and the Apache, my heart just broke. High school history classes don't really get into the depths of it,” Amanda Adrinne said.
One of the cast members of “Avenged” is veteran actor Joseph Runningfox. The actor played the role of the protagonist in the 1993 movie “Geronimo.” Amanda Adrienne said that working with the veteran actor “was an amazing gift.” The actress revealed that Joseph Runningfox shared many stories about life on the reservation and these stories filled her with “lot of weight and purpose” for the movie.
One of the most notable incidents that Amanda Adrienne remembers from the set is of a woman walking up to her and giving her a hug on the street. The actress revealed that the woman had been watching the filming of the movie and told the actress that the movie had moved her by capturing “exactly how she felt after she had been raped.”
“Avenged” will be released in the movie theatres and on Video On Demand on March 6.
