Asus Padfone Full Specifications
The Asus Padfone was first announced earlier this year (May) and additional details about this new device was revealed through the site, GLBenchmark.
The Asus Padfone is considered as a "special" device because it could work both as a smartphone and a tablet. It means that the smartphone has the ability to "dock" and it could turn into a tablet. The same feature could be found in the Motorola Atrix. Information about the Asus Padfone's processor was revealed showing that it would have a Qualcomm MSM8960 SoC processor which is part of the Snapdragon S4 platform. This would mean that the Asus Padfone would be the first smartphone to sport the Snapdragon S4 as its processor.
Aside from that, the Asus Padfone would utilize the Android Ice Cream Sandwich as its OS upon release. This comes as no surprise as during the testing period, the Asus Padfone utilized Android Honeycomb (Android 3.0) and original listed OS for this device is Android Gingerbread. It is a natural step for the device to adopt the latest Android version which is the ICS. The Asus Padfone will also have a qHD resolution (960x540 pixels), 4.3 inch touch-screen display for its smartphone feature and a 10.1 inch touch-screen display for its tablet feature. Min CPU Frequency is at 384 MHz while Maximum CPU Freq is 918 MHz.
Other specifications like RAM, on-board storage, expandable memory (if any), camera, and connectivity are not yet specified. The S4 contained in the Asus Padfone would be able to support up to 2.5GHz single, dual or quad-core configurations. Though that is the case, no specific detail about it has been revealed in the market. Upon the release of Asus Padfone, it will be competing with Tegra 3 tablets and the company is planning to make sure that they will be able to keep up with the stiff competition in the market.
Asus has not yet confirmed the official release date of Asus Padfone but DigiTimes have speculated a tentative release date for it. According to DigiTimes, this device would be available by February 2012.
