Below, users will learn how to dismiss notifications, what do on the lock screen notifications, access Quick Settings and the Settings Menu, and utilise the new "Downtime" and "Interruptions" via volume rocker.

A Quick Way To Dismiss Notifications

Sometimes apps can generate several notifications, especially the ones updated via feeds from the Internet. In order to quickly dismiss these notifications, scroll down with one finger from the status bar, scroll to the bottom of the notifications and then tap on the Dismiss icon. Users can also control which app's notifications can push through by exploring Sounds and Notifications section on the Settings Menu.

Interact With Notifications On The Lock Screen

Moto X and Moto G upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop will allow users to directly interact with notifications on the lock screen. Users can double tap on a notification to read or respond to it by going directly to the app without unlocking the screen, swipe left or right to dismiss it, swipe upwards from the bottom to unlock the device or tap on the Home Key represented by a circle icon on the bottom of the screen to do nothing.

In case some users prefer privacy and do not want notifications appearing on the lock screen, go to Settings and tap on Sounds and Notifications. Here, users can select from three options about notifications on the lock screen to determine privacy level—Show All Notification Content, Hide Sensitive Notification Content or Don't Show Notifications At All.

Using The New Settings Menu On Android 5.0 Lollipop

Quick Settings contain shortcut toggles of most frequently used functionalities such as Wi-Fi and mobile data. Swipe two fingers downward from the top of the display screen to view shortcut toggles including the new flashlight control, Bluetooth, screen orientation, location and brightness level.

Users can customise Wi-Fi connections at the Quick Settings by tapping on the text displayed below the Wi-Fi icon to choose which network they prefer. Both are located in the Volume Settings accessible by pressing the volume rocker that controls volume levels for notifications. Users will see three modes—None, Priority and All—with separate volume levels. Turning the phone to Vibrate mode can be done easily by pressing the Volume key and tapping on the bell icon. Users can also press the volume keys all the way down will also trigger the Vibrate mode on.

Using Priority Mode allows the user to set which notifications will get through during specific numbers of hours indicated by a star icon on the Status Bar. It can be used to filter notifications by events, reminders, calls and messages. For long periods of quiet time, press the volume rocker and then click on "None" and set the number of hours for this mode. In this mode, users will receive notifications but no sound or vibration will take place. This mode is indicated by a "no symbol" icon in the Status Bar.
