A test Android 4.4.3 firmware for the Galaxy Note 3 had earlier leaked online. An update to the latest iteration of Android-edge closer to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners in the UK after Samsung began rolling out Google's latest operating system to its flagship phablet.

Android 4.4 KitKat is now ready for download for Polish Note 3 versions through Kies, the South Korean company's proprietary download solution. The start of this European rollout means that the UK update can't be far away and Google will surely welcome this given the persistent issues with fragmentation that still plague its smartphone platform.

In some reports that may disappoint some owners, the upgrade doesn't really add a lot of new features. It's not much different in terms of design. A see-through notification bar is now present alongside white icons that are lifted from the Nexus 5 but there's no significant change with the TouchWiz that's been touted in previous weeks.

The changes are minor in nature and focused on improving the general usability of the device. With the Galaxy Note 3 being a powerhouse and TouchWiz running on it, it could be hard to notice the improvements on its under-the-hood performance that Google introduced in Android 4.4 KitKat.

Find the short list of new features found in the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update below:

  • Ability to select Hangouts as the default SMS client
  • Full screen music album art on the lock screen
  • New Location Settings for further fine-grain control over location usage from apps
  • Camera icon shortcut on the lock screen
  • Wireless printing
  • Immersive mode
  • System wide support for colorful emoji
  • White status bar icons
  • Updated Galaxy Gear Manager
  • Performance and stability improvements
