Huawei’s most advanced flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 8, flaunts an aerospace-grade aluminium body not found in its rivals. The phone is now available in China at CNY 2,999 (AU$639). Its global variant will be unveiled at CES 2016 in January.

The Mate 8 comes in three variants: 32 GB at CNY 2,999 (AU$639); 64 GB at CNY 3,699 (AU$788) and 128 GB at CNY 4,399 (AU$937).

Features

The grapevine has it the handset features a circular fingerprint scanner at the back similar to that in the Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P. The Huawei Mate 8 is covered in 2.5D screen glass that reflects elegance, reports BGR. Also called a contoured edge, 2.5D screen glass refers to a slight curvature at the edge of the display. The phone also comes with a 4,000mAH battery.

Specifications

The Mate 8 boasts of stunning features such as a 6-inch full HD IPS display technology enhanced by 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Huawei tucks in the Kirin 950 octa-core (1.8GHz Cortex-A53 quad-core plus 2.3GHz Cortex-A72 quad core ) chipset tweaked with Mali T880 GPU. An extra surprise comes with the phone’s i5 co-processor meant for speech recognition and more clarity in recognizing voice modulation.

Camera lovers should feel happy about the 16 MP rear camera fitted with the IMX298 image sensor; Phase Detection AutoFocus; optical image stabilization, among others. An 8 MP front-facing snapper is great for cool selfies.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac; 4G LTE support and Bluetooth 4.2. Some of the other features include fused location provider (FLP) navigation, lower-power consumption MP3, sensor hub and others.
