Officially announced on Nov. 26, the powerful Huawei Mate 8 is ready to go on sale beginning Dec. 9. At launch, thanks to the Kirin 950 processor, the smartphone scored a whopping 94,250 points on benchmarking site AnTuTu.

Delivering the same spec sheet, the high-end device is considered the equivalent of the coveted Galaxy Note 5 by Samsung. The Mate 8, however, will reportedly come with a price tag almost half of that of Note 5.

The Huawei Mate 8 carries a 6-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The smartphone is available in two variants with 3 GB and 4 GB of RAM configuration. The base model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage will be priced at AU$640. This variant comes in Gray and Silver colour options.

On the other hand, the premium 4 GB model with 64 GB and 128 GB native storage will be sold at AU$789 and AU$938, respectively. The model with 4 GB of RAM will be available in Mocha Gold and Champaign Gold options.

He Gang, president of the Huawei Terminal phone product line, mentioned the company will produce one million units per month, according to a report in My Drivers. This reveals Huawei has huge confidence in its product, which could surpass the figures of Mate 7 that sold seven million units in one year.

The device has a 16 MP rear camera with a Sony IMX298 sensor that touts an aperture of f/2.0 and optical image stabilisation. The 8 MP front snapper also sports an IMX179 sensor made by Sony.

A gigantic 4000 mAh battery is also present to keep the lights on, according to a report in Phone Arena. Mate 8 will be the second Non-Nexus device after HTC One A9 to be shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board.
