It's the Trees versus the Ducks as #6 Stanford takes on #2 Oregon at home in Saturday morning's (Australia time) Pac-12 football match-up.

The Cardinal (7-1) have seen their ranking change significantly in just a couple of weeks. Starting out at #5 in the pre-season polls, they dispatched of #23 Arizona State and #15 Washington in quick succession. A shock defeat to the Utah Utes (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12) on the road pushed Stanford all the way down to #13. However, they bounced back against the #9 UCLA Bruins at home behind a bruising third-quarter assault. After a 20-12 win over Oregon State in Corvallis, the Cardinal are nearing the higher echelons of the ranking at #6.

Despite their 7-1 record, though, not everyone is impressed with Stanford. Many felt that some games, like the ones against Army in West Point and Washington at home, were closer than they should have been. They have also kept the scores down, managing 31 points or less in their past four games, and have breached the 40-point barrier only twice in 2013.

Offense is the least of the Oregon Ducks' worries. They have scored 55 points or more in all but two of their eight games in 2013. What's more, they have kept their opponents to an average of just under 17 points per game. The spread option offense preached by first year coach Mark Helfrich has worked wonders for the team which has ranked #2 consistently since Week 2 of the current season.

The Ducks became eligible for a bowl game after winning over Washington; however, they would like nothing more than another shot at the BCS national championship. The Cardinal, too, by virtue of their #2 placing in the Pac-12, have a legitimate shot, especially if they beat Oregon.
