Foxtel had officially announced the release date for “Wentworth” season 5. The network took to the show’s official Facebook page to inform all fans that it will return to the small screens on April 4.

Along with the show’s release date, a teaser clip for season 5 was also dropped. In the promotional video, fans got a glimpse of a crying Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson) as she offers flowers to what appeared to be the grave of her lesbian lover, Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack).

The final episode of the latest season has seen Allie waking up from coma. Now that she is back, she will seek revenge for the death of the woman she loves as suggested by the recently released promo clip. “Wentworth” season 5 is expected to feature the emotional shockwaves that her death will bring to the inmates and staff of Wentworth Correctional Centre, particularly to Allie.

Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) stabbed Bea multiple times, which led to her death. The main character’s demise has already been confirmed by the show’s executive producer, Jo Porter.

Bea is known as the prison’s top dog. Since she is now dead, someone has to take her place. And her replacement as top dog is no other than Kaz Proctor (Tammy MacIntosh), a member of the vigilante group called the Red Right Hand.

Kaz had always been one of the supporters of Bea. The main storyline for her character was her admiration for Bea. Kaz was spotted yelling support at her outside the courthouse after Bea's sentencing.

According to Foxtel, the prison’s new top dog will face a challenge. That is to ensure that peace and order is observed in the prison among the inmates that are enduring the pain of Bea’s death. It seems this is going to be a challenge as the inmates appear angry at Joan, also known as The Freak, for killing their former top dog.

“Wentworth” season 5 cast has also been announced by Foxtel. Aside from MacIntosh and Jenkinson, Nicole da Silva (Franky Doyle) Pamela Rabe (Joan Ferguson), Kate Atkinson (Vera Bennett), Sigrid Thornton (Sonia Stevens), Celia Ireland (Liz Birdsworth), Katrina Milosevic (Sue ‘Boomer’ Jenkins) and Shareena Clanton (Doreen Anderson) will return to reprise their roles. The same is true for Robbie Magasiva (Will Jackson) Bernard Curry (Jake Stewart) and Socratis Otto (Maxine Conway). The crime drama TV series originally aired on SoHo in Australia.
