Season 5 premiere of "The Walking Dead" is days away and fans get good news. "The Walking Dead" is renewed for Season 6 by AMC. The network announced that the No. 1 show among adults (18-49) will return for the sixth season.

AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement that they are excited for Oct. 12 as fans around the world watch the new episodes of "The Walking Dead."

"In advance of Sunday's season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There's plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort," Collier said.

The network has not announced the number of episodes in Season 6 or if they will follow the same format or change it.

Apart from a new season, AMC has also ordered a companion series for "The Walking Dead."

In a statement, Collier said that fans of the show have been curious about what is happening in other parts of the world after the zombie apocalypse.

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," Robert Kirkman said in a statement (via E! Online).

Meanwhile, fans are excited about the return of "The Walking Dead" after Season 4 finale. The premiere episode will pick things up from the last season's finale instalment.
