A video of a polar bear attacking a camera man has gone viral with a million views within only four days. The unnatural nature footage drew mixed reactions from disbelief, to genuine awe, to excitement and suspense.

The video clip was part of a BBC Two documentary, "'The Polar Bear Family and Me," which started airing on Jan. 7.

BBC cameraman Gordon Buchanan may or may have not expected to be attacked by a massive polar bear that day, but he certainly seemed prepared to tell the story.

"She's enormous," Buchanan describes the 8-foot wildlife. He deserves credit for being able to tell the story as it happens, while the polar bear is sniffing out her way to make a meal out of him. In a spontaneous blow-by-blow account of what was transpiring as the film continued to roll, Buchanan gave some viewers quite an exhilarating experience.

"Really, it's why I've come here - to see these animals, to get to understand them, to see them up close," Buchanan says in the video.

The sight of the polar bear attacking Buchanan - though he was in a supposedly safe "cage" (a Perspex pod) - is terrifying to the human imagination.

The video description says Buchanan came "face-to-face with a fierce 1,000kg polar bear looking for its next meal." It is one thing to be attacked by an 8-foot polar bear, but the video tells of worse danger because two hungry little cubs have to be fed, too. The polar bear momma is seen doing everything it could to get to Buchanan.

"For almost 45-minutes the Scottish filmmaker endures the polar bear's sustained assault as it desperately looks for a weak spot in his pod. The bear, with its powerful paws and giant teeth, was trying to get hold of the 40-year-old so she could feed herself and her two young cubs."

Watch the video to see a free polar bear attack a "caged" man in a different hunting tale. It took only four days for the footage to draw a million views (still counting).
