The sales of ingredients in dishes featured on TV show MasterChef went up to 1400 per cent.
Figures show that the sales of Coles Supermarket, from ling fish to red cabbage, increased following the airing of pressure or invention tests.
Coles has access to the TV program's recipes before they go on air. Once a week, the supermarket gets two recipes during filming, selects one and recreates it with a stylist and photographer.
When the new version is done, it is then promoted in ads during the show, printed on recipe cards and are made available in the store the day after the episode airs.
Johanna Folkhard, a resident of Kellyville, west of Sydney, is a follower of the show.
"It does influence us. I don't Google the recipes but it sparks the interest again in what they use on TV," she said.
Sales data on the beef stroganoff recipe featured on MasterChef on June 13 showed extra trim beef fillet steak sales increased by 30 per cent, parsley 12 per cent, onion shallots 33 per cent and Campbells stock 55 per cent.
Media commentator Peter Cox keeps an eye on the figures of the show which regularly draws around 2 million viewers.
"That is freak television - you don't get that often in life," he said.
