A teacher at a Christian school told her family that having a child out of wedlock is the reason for the termination of her employment as her condition breaks the "lifestyle agreement" she signed with the school, Brisbanetimes.com.au reported.

Jamie Davidson, the sister of kindergarten teacher Jess Davidson, said Caloundra Christian Community Kindergarten had informed Miss Jess she only had until the end of the term to work with the school.

This developed a month after Miss Jess informed the school of her condition, and weeks after a series of meetings between Miss Jess and school administrators.

Brisbane Times also learned that Jess was advised to not speak to the media about this matter.

"She was told that being pregnant and not married did not align with the school's designation as a Christian lifestyle," Jamie said, adding that the situation has put her sister under a lot of stress early in her pregnancy.

Jess already has two children aged seven and nine; she was married when she had them, but when she was first hired by the school two years ago she was a single mother.

Jamie said their family could not believe of the school's ruling in these modern times.

Brisbane Times got a copy of the school's Lifestyle Agreement. It states, "(I)t is a genuine occupational requirement" that nothing in the staff's overall conduct "should be incompatible with the intrinsic character of their position, especially, but not only, in relation to the expression of human sexuality through heterosexual, monogamous relationships, expressed intimately through marriage."

Principal of Caloundra Christian College Mark Hodges confirmed Jess was losing her job, but he told Brisbane Times he could not divulge the reason due to privacy agreements.

"It's not to do with the pregnancy, though she did contravene the lifestyle agreement," he said.

Jamie has set up a Facebook page called "I support Miss Jess," which has so far been 'liked' over one thousand times. The social network page is urging the school to change its policies and stop discriminating against unwed mothers.

Sunshine Coast Daily spoke to Melinda Saunders, one of Miss Jess' supporters. Two of her children had been the beleaguered teacher's students.

Ms Saunders went to the Christian school to question the sacking of Miss Jess, and in response, she said Mr Hodges gave her a copy of the Lifestyle Agreement as an explanation.

"It's shocking and devastating, it's her job, her whole future and she doesn't need this stress when she is pregnant," Ms Saunders said.
