TVLine reports that Katie McGrath of “Merlin” was recently cast as Lena Luthor in the second season of “Supergirl.” The character is described as beautiful, powerful and enigmatic, who arrives in National City immediately after Lex was incarcerated, to look for a clean slate. Lena has come to take the helm of Luthor Corp as CEO after her brother has smeared its reputation.

Lena aims to rebrand the business empire to serve noble purposes. She wants to create her own reputation as a completely different person from her evil brother. In the process, she will encounter Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who will try to determine whether her intentions are truly for good or if she is just like her brother.

ScreenRant notes that The CW teased how “Supergirl” will showcase a younger cast in the upcoming Season 2. Benoist mentioned that moving the show from CBS to The CW was the perfect move. They have a different demographic now and she appreciates how the first three scripts already feel more vibrant, rich and exciting. She added that the tone will not change so much and that the story will feature the same characters and themes, although with new additions.

Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) is expected to be seen more in the new season. Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) is also set to guest-star soon. Other slated cast members include the President of the United States (Lynda Carter), Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez), Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) and Chris Wood, who will play a mysterious DC character.

According to Comic Book Resources, Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen on “Supergirl,” also affirmed that the script feels younger and more vibrant. At CBS, the demographic was older and more conservative, but being in The CW allows them to be more like themselves. The cast members are apparently very pleased and comfortable with the transfer.

“Supergirl” Season 2 is set to air on Oct. 10, 2016 on The CW. More updates and details are expected soon.
