Eating soft food can increase the possibilities of having too many teeth that a normal human mouth can handle. UK researchers found out that as time goes by, people’s lower jaws have become smaller that teeth are most of the time compressed. But it was also said that soft food can affect the formation of teeth.

Children and Teenagers, especially those with braces to fix their misaligned teeth, are more prone to eating soft food almost all the time. Their diet mostly contains breads, wheat, and ground grains that are indeed easier to chew compared to the usual meat rich diets.

Previous animal experiments have shown that those who are fed with softer diet can have slower low jaw development. This can possibly explain the high occurrence rate of crooked teeth and other dental problems.

Noreen von Cramon-Taubadel from the University of Kent, UK and a group of researchers are continuously investigating if animal experiments are similar with man’s teeth development. More studies are needed to have a final judgment on this case.

Though the study is not yet finalized, it is safe to make sure that kids and teenagers are eating meals that can enhance their chewing.

Cases of Dental Problems in Australia

Cavities and teeth loss are the main causes of dental problems in Australia. Though these are not the main problem caused by soft food, the fact still remains that more and more Australian people and even in other countries all over the world have increasing cases of dental problems.

Government offered different programs to fight dental problems. But if eating too much soft food can affect teeth formation, then there must be immediate solutions.

More and more kids need to suffer from painful braces to realign their malformed teeth. With proper diet, kids can form a better set of teeth and thus can possibly have less problems.

Alternative diet for children with braces can perhaps help. Add some food that can be difficult to chew to exercise their mastication. Aside from preventing teeth problems in the future, they can also have complete nutrition which their bodies need.
