Roger Federer believes his new coach Ivan Ljubicic would bring excitement and motivation to his team.

Federer announced last week that he is shaking up his coaching for the next season. He recently parted ways with Stefan Edberg and replaced him with Ljubicic. The Swiss Maestro said Ljubicic, a former World No. 3, would give him a new perspective as part of the current-generation players.

"It's the first time that I've had someone within my team who has actually played on Tour against the players that I've played against," Federer said, reports the Straits Times. "My coaches in the past have all been players from a different generation. I think Ivan can bring something very exciting to my team, (including) motivation."

Ever since his stint with Edberg in 2014, Federer has not won any Grand Slams. However, under Ljubicic, the 34-year-old Swiss believes he could become a better player and win more games, including another major title.

According to ESPN tennis analyst Brad Gilbert, who coached the likes of Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, Federer’s move to hire the Croatian coach is part of the Swiss’ plans to overcome World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

"By the usual standard, Roger had a remarkable year, but what's really amazing is that this is a guy who really thinks he can still get better,” Gilbert told ESPN. “He's never satisfied with the status quo, and right now he has to think about what he can do to beat Djokovic in a five-set match.”

Federer has defeated Djokovic this season in a final round match-up at the Cincinnati Masters, but he lost to “Djoker” in the other major title tournaments like the Wimbledon, US Open, and most recently at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The 17-time Grand Slam announced his intentions to still compete next season despite an aging body. With a new coach and ample rest from a gruelling year, Federer is poised to get another shot at a Grand Slam victory.
