“Rise of the Tomb Raider” has finally launched on the PC, and with it comes a slew of PC enhancements and improvements. From the Foundation Engine’s return to the Houdini software, PC fans have a lot to look forward to when they get their hands on the sequel from 2013’s reboot.

GeForce detailed over the official website the different improvements that have been added for the PC experience. Starting off with the Foundation Engine, the company confirmed that there will be Physically Based Rendering for a natural look in all conditions, HDR and adaptive tone mapping for great highlights and zones, God Rays added by volumetric lighting and Subsurface Scattering and Backscattering to improve the light quality on Lara Croft’s and the other characters’ skins.

Crystal Dynamics also made use of the Houdini software. This basically granted the creation of realistic water effects and avalanches offline via Blink videos. These were then used for real-time cutscenes complete with visual effects that make the scene dramatic without taking a beating on rendering. The video below shows off the snow technology and the Houdini software simulation.

There are other technologies included in the release of “Rise of the Tomb Raider” for the PC. Among these are the DSR, G-SYNCH, SLI and Surround.

For PC fans who cannot wait to see the shots of the game, WCCF Tech has sighted some PC screenshots for “Rise of the Tomb Raider.” The amount of detail shows how the technologies mentioned above are at play when on the PC version. From the rock formations, the fog and the lighting, there’s an otherworldly, underground quality to Lara’s adventures.

Players enjoying “Rise of the Tomb Raider” on the Xbox platforms can look forward to the “Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch.” Kotaku reported that the new DLC is looking to bring in new chapters to the main campaign of the game.

For this expansion, Lara Croft will have to go on a quest to find the old witch. She will be facing off the Trinity organisation and meet with one Nadia, who is in search of her grandfather. Considering that this expansion is introducing a witch, it’s not surprising that the chapters will take on a witchcraft and sorcery spin.

While the new DLC brings similar combats, environment-based gathering and puzzle solving, there are a lot more to look forward to in enhancing “Rise of the Tomb Raider.” What’s great about this is that the additions are more than just new locations and fight sequences.
