Daniel Ricciardo finishes third at the Hungary Grand Prix, overtakes Räikkönen in the driver standings

Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo finished third at the Hungarian Gran Prix last Sunday, behind Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, who came in at first and second, respectively. But the podium finish pushes the Australian driver over Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen in the drivers standing.

According to Red Bull’s website, Ricciardo took the lead early during the race’s first turn. But he was unable to hold on as Hamilton and Rosberg quickly overtook him. The Australian driver tried his best to challenge the Silver Arrow’s drivers, but his aggressive tyre strategy was not enough.

Mercedes was unchallenged during the race with Hamilton winning over Rosberg. The British driver’s win puts him atop the world championship for the first time this season.

Despite the third place finish, Ricciardo and the Red Bull team had something to smile about as they were able to beat Ferrari at the Budapest race and at the world championship.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was pressuring Ricciardo in the late stages of the race. But the German driver came out short to finish at fourth place. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished fifth, holding off Räikkönen, who had to settle for sixth The Finn ran into Verstappen as the Dutch was changing direction. The left front wing endplate of Räikkönen's race car was damaged.

According to the Formula 1 website, Hamilton, who now has 192 points, has a six-point advantage over Rosberg who has 186. With the third place finish, Ricciardo now has 115 points, overtaking Räikkönen, who has 114.

Vettel remains at fifth with 110 points, while Verstappen closes up with 100.

In the constructors’ stakes, Mercedes is still far ahead with 378 points, followed by Ferrari with 224. Red Bull closes the gap with Ferrari as they now have 223 points.
