Chelsea and Arsenal were both battling to score the German international and Real Madrid superstar Sami Khedira but it appears that Manchester United has overtaken both clubs as manager Louis van Gaal is pretty keen to take the superstar midfielder in the winter transfer window, after missing out on Arturo Vidal last summer.

Manchester United has the funds to match the fees that can attract top stats and it is quite possible that the club can offer the same to Sami Khedira. In fact, reports suggest that Manchester United is leading the race to sign the 27-year-old midfielder having leapfrogged Gunners and Blues.

Chelsea has already a strong midfielder and it does not really need Sami Khedira at the moment, while Arsenal has been in a terrible position in the league and it has been reluctant to match the wages of Khedira. Reports over the weekend claimed that Arsenal has offered the superstar midfielder a pre-contract.

On the other hand, reports in Spain claim that Manchester United has discussed terms with Khedira. Needless to say, the club needs strong midfielder like the 27-year-old and has the resources to match his salary demands. As such, Manchester United is in a good position when the winter transfer window comes.

According The Express, Manchester United is set to offer the Real Madrid midfielder a long-term contract that is worth £5.5million annually. Although Carlo Ancelotti previously claimed that Khedira is not moving out of Real Madrid, the 27-year-old is leaving the Spanish giants after he turned down two contract offers and now Ancelotti is weighing up a replacement in Arturo Vidal.

Louis Van Gaal was at first determined to land Roma star Kevin Strootman this winter but the £75 million price-tag has seen the former Holland boss turn his attention to Sami Khedira instead. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to link up with his former player, which will pave his way to use Cesc Fabregas in an advanced role.
