MasterChef contestants recently faced the tower of terror when they had to make 120 macaroons from scratch in just four hours.

Renowned patissier Adriano Zumbo on Monday night put the cooking show's contestants to the test, which resulted to the elimination of Peter Kritikides.

Zumbo is sure to create a macaroon mania after coming up with a gravity-defying desert to put the top 10's skills to a test. Last year, Australians went crazy with his croquembouche creation.

The French delicacy is considered as the Sydney chef's bread and butter. He makes about 4500 macaroons each day, backed up by his success on last year's series.

Although the challenge somehow disheartened Kritikides, Marion Grasby, Aaron Harvie and Alvin Quah, Zumbo said he was amazed with those who were able to climb the cooking equivalent of Everest.

"I didn't think a few of them would make it, but they did," he said.

Unfortunately for Kritikides, he wasn't able to climb the mountain as he got ousted from the show for the second time.
