A new clip from the “Outlander” Season 2 bonus featurette has been released online. The main focus of the video is the theme song “The Skye Boat.” The cast members and Executive-Producer Ronald D. Moore can be seen praising the song in the clip.

The video begins with a scene from France, in which Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrive in the country together on a ship. The background music is the theme song of the TV series.

“The Skye Boat” is a folk song that is very famous in Scotland. It is about the escape of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower) after the Battle of Culloden. The lyrics of the song explain how the prince reached the Isle of Skye in a boat, disguised as a maid. The song was adapted as the theme by Bear McCreary for the Starz TV series.

The theme song for the TV series was sung by Raya Yarbrough. Both Yarbrough and McCreary are seen in the “Outlander” Season 2 featurette clip. The two were filmed in the studio, while they were working on the song.

“’The Skye Boat’ song is a very well known song in Scotland,” Heughan said in the video. His fellow cast member Balfe echoed the same sentiments and revealed that she has known the song all her life even though she is Irish.

Commending the choice of the song, Heughan said that it seems to have captured the “heart and the essence” of the show. Moore descried the song as “beautiful” and “eloquent.”

The song is mostly used in a waltz. Balfe revealed that she has many friends who watch the show, and apparently many of them start to dance when the theme song comes on.

The cast and crew are currently busy filming “Outlander” Season 3. The first two blocks, consisting a total of four episodes, have been completed so far and the team is now working on Block 3.
