The controversy surrounding the winner of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant has taken a new twist after Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek slammed the newly crowned Miss Universe from Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Riek insisted that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo should have won.

“I really couldn’t believe it, I was so upset. For me Miss France is the real winner,” she said in an interview uploaded to Facebook page Missosology. “I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it."

Sarah-Lorraine also said that Wurtzbach wasn't even the first choice among the contestants. “Because no one of us voted for Philippines. I’m so sorry to say it.”

Social media is abuzz with opinions on Miss Germany's statements, with many people believing that she is critical of Miss Philippines as she has a German last name Wurtzbach. “Bitter, classless.... that's just upset because someone with a German last name and German roots won and not her, lol,” writes a user on the website Perez Hilton. Many others were of the opinion that Miss Germany has “no poise” and has embarrassed her country with her statement.

The controversy regarding the crowing of Miss Philippines as the new Miss Universe 2015 pageant arose when host Steve Harvey made an epic error with the announcement of the winner. He crowned runner-up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo as the winner in front of millions of viewers by mistake.

After the horrendous mistake, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was then revealed as the correct winner. Miss Colombia Ariandna Miss Colombia was forced to hand over her crown to Wurtzbach in a not-so pleasant moment. The incident was widely discussed on social media, and Harvey even apologised to the ladies.

However, Colombian beauty Ariadna did not criticise the winner and maintained her cool. “Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy,” she said. “Thank you for voting for me.”

Meanwhile, Wurtzbach has called her win a "very non-traditional crowning moment” and said that the awkward incident is “Very 2015!”
