Mike Portnoy has shared his thoughts about joining Dream Theater again. He says that chances are less.

The UK edition of "Metal Hammer" magazine features Jay Postones of Tesseract who asks Portnoy about playing with Dream Theater again in the future.

"If I was a betting man, I wouldn't put money on it. And that's not my doing. I never say never and haven't closed any doors," Portnoy said, obtained via Loudwire.com.

"I'm a very nostalgic person; I forgive and forge very easily... but I think the guys [in Dream Theater] have made it very clear they have no interest in looking backwards. I guess the ball's in their court. We shall see," the drummer added.

Mike Mangini (Extreme, Steve Vai, Annihilator) joined and handled the drum duties after Portnoy left Dream Theater in September 2010 during the tour with Avenged Sevenfold. He stated that he needed a break from the band.

In 2011, Dream Theater welcomed Mangini as the new drummer through a reality show called "The Spirit Carries On." Numerous drummers participated in the audition program and Mangini was the chosen one.

In October 2013, James Labrie, frontman of Dream Theater talked to Brazil's Wikimetal about Portnoy.

Labrie said that he hasn't spoken to Portnoy after he parted ways with the band. He explained that the band is moving forward and Mangini is the new drummer and will continue to be. He added that the prime reason Dream Theater is continuing to make music is because they have somebody like Mangini onboard.

In the past, Portnoy expressed his desire to rejoin the band in a "heartbeat."

The drummer revealed that other members are the one who have moved on. He added that he just needed a break and he got the break. Portnoy, at that time, mentioned that he was "ready, willing and able."

Dream Theater, with Mangini, released two studio albums - "A Dramatic Turn of Events" and a self-titled record.
