Mel B has finally broken her silence on the rumours that her husband had hit her. The former Spice Girl denied that Stephen Belafonte ever assaulted her, also explaining why it took her so long to defend him from the damaging reports.

The 39-year-old songstress missed the penultimate episode of “The X Factor UK” earlier in December after she was rushed to the hospital. Her rep said she suffered from a “serious” albeit mystery illness, although she was able to attend the final episode the next day.

However, observant viewers quickly noted that Mel wasn’t wearing her wedding ring. She also allegedly looked bruised, scratched and swollen. Some fans put the blame on Belafonte, claiming Mel was hospitalised after he hit her. Speculations that her husband wasn’t by her side in the hospital were also rife.

Mel was silent over the issue, though, prompting her husband to defend himself on Twitter. Belafonte denied the rumours, saying that they were not only untrue, but also disgusting.

Idon't usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting un true!

After a couple of weeks, Mel, whose real name is Melanie Brown, finally spoke up. On Sunday, she posted a photo of herself with Belafonte, telling her fans that the reports were nothing but just fabrication. She also explained why it took her long to clear up the rumours.

“This is for my fans havin problems with my Twitter will be back soon! I’m very good was very polly but much better now and for the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me sorry took so long but any response fuels rumors #lovemyfamily #lovemyfans,” (sic) she wrote on Instagram.

On Boxing Day, she posted a photo of her family, which includes her three daughters and Belafonte, effectively squashing other reports claiming she was set to divorce the film producer.

Mel and Belafonte married in 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They have one daughter together, Madison, who was born in 2011. Mel also has two daughters from previous relationships, namely Phoenix (born 1999) with first husband Jimmy Gulzar, and Angel Iris (born 2007) with actor Eddie Murphy.
