Matt Bomer and Stephen Amell were both pushed by fans to play the role of Christian Grey in the film version of "Fifty Shades of Grey." According to fans, both Bomer and Amell would be convincing as Mr Grey, a dashing, enigmatic, and sexy billionaire. Apparently, both actors share more than this general description in common. They both support the ALS Association.

(Jamie Dornan eventually got the role of Christian Grey. His love interest, Anastasia Steele, is portrayed by Dakota Johnson.)

What is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?

Viral videos and photos of celebrities joining the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge have been popping out on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Many have been wondering what this "challenge" is about.

The Ice Bucket Challenge requires an individual to endure a dumping of ice water over their head. After doing so, they can challenge three other people to do the same. Those who would rather not feel the chill should make a cash donation to the ALS Association.

Matt Bomer, who plays Neal Caffrey on USA's "White Collar," did not name anyone to take the challenge. Kids, presumed by YouTube commenters as his sons Henry, Walker, and Kit (with husband Simon Halls) helped him pour ice water over his head. (Perez Hilton has a photo of the family here.)

Robbie Amell, who led the cast of "The Tomorrow People," challenged his cousin Stephen, who plays Oliver Queen in The CW's "Arrow." In turn, Stephen called on Grant Gustin (Barry Allen in "The Flash"), John Barrowman (Dark Archer aka Malcolm Merlyn in "Arrow") and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester in "Supernatural") to accept the Ice Bucket Challenge, too. All three gentlemen are stars in a series on The CW, Barrowman being Amell's co-star.

The ALS Association has received $4 million between July 29 and [August 12], the organisation says in its website. In contrast, the organisation got $1.12 million within the same period a year ago.

"The ALS Association is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from those people who have been doused, made a donation, or both," the association said in a statement.
