Marvel Comics recently revealed that Riri Williams will take Tony Stark’s limelight as the new Iron Man. However, with some fans taking issue on the idea of giving a 15-year-old woman with the title of Iron Man, Williams is given the new name Ironheart.

Marvel stated that the upcoming comics “Invincible Iron Man” has finally figured out the superhero name for the heroine. Writer Brian Michael Bendis shared that it took their creative team some time to finally come up with a suitable superhero name for Riri Williams.

“Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some,” Bendis told Wired. “Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare.”

Marvel comic book artist Joe Quesada was the person who finally coined the perfect name for Riri Williams, the title Ironheart.

“After I told him my planned story for Riri, (Ironheart) speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole,” Bendis said. “Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related.

“When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was.”

Riri Williams will star as the highly anticipated 15-year-old prodigy who built her own version of the Iron Man armour in her dorm room at MIT. Using what spare parts she could find, the young girl finally took off to the skies with her very own suit.

In the latest issue of “Invincible Iron Man,” Riri’s test flight got the attention of Iron Man himself. Tony Stark then decided to become Riri’s mentor and helped the young girl build a new set of armour. This time, Riri’s on-board A.I. will be modelled after Stark’s own personality. This explains why Tony appeared as a red hologram on the promo art of “Invincible Iron Man #1.”

“Regardless of where he might be physically, he’ll be soaring along with her spiritually,” Marvel editor Tom Breevort stated.

Riri Williams becoming the new Iron Man, Ironheart, is among the latest of Marvel’s passing of the personas of iconic superheroes on to a new generation.

“Invincible Iron Man #1” goes on sale in November in US.
