INXS bassist Garry Beers is an “egotistical” father, his daughter claims. Lucy-Mae Beers thinks his famous dad is just a “D-list rock star” who abandoned his family like “stray dogs.”

Right after the Australian miniseries “Never Tear Us Apart” aired in Melbourne in February, Lucy-Mae, 22, received an email from her father, asking her what she thought about actor Hugh Sheridan playing him in the two-part series.

Lucy-Mae thought the series, as well as the autobiography of the band, failed to provide factual explanations about Garry’s personal life and his “Peter Pan syndrome.”As she wrote in the Daily Mail, the series rationalised Garry’s sleeping around while his pregnant wife waited for him at home because he was “lonely.”

“The series seemed to conveniently leave out the fact that Garry has five children in three different countries and is now married to the woman who used to wait for him outside of gigs while his family were inside. Or that the foetus in the opening scene of ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ – soon to be me, has mostly grown up without a father,” Lucy-Mae wrote.

Lucy-Mae is Garry’s daughter with his first wife Jodie Crampton. She has a sister, Matilda, and a half-brother, Benjamin, from Garry’s short relationship with Bucks Fizz singer Shelley Preston. Garry, 57, is currently married to his wife Jourdan, with whom he has a twin daughter and son, Isla and August.

When INXS’s fame dwindled, his father had a hard time accepting that he was to leave his rock ‘n roll lifestyle and go home to his family. The family had sold the NSW farm where they lived, while Garry told them he was moving to the United States to marry another woman, Jourdan. Since then, Lucy-Mae’s only form of correspondence with her father was through email, which she receives only occasionally.

Garry apparently has never thought that his abandonment of his family warrants an apology for his part.

“It is clear he is not sorry that my little sister found out about his first affair in the INXS autobiography in the school library, or that we were sent to four psychologists to understand why we were upset with him for abandoning us like stray dogs,” she continued, adding that she grew up fine because of her mother.

The two-part miniseries “INXS: Never Tear Us Apart” aired on February 9 and 16 on the Seven Network. It starred Sheridan as Garry, Luke Arnold as Michael Hutchence, Andrew Ryan as Andrew Farriss, Alex Williams as Kirk Pengilly, Ido Drent as Jon Farriss, Nick Masters as Tim Farriss, Samantha Jade as Kylie Minogue, Georgina Haig as Paula Yates, Mallory Jansen as Helena Christensen, and Damon Herriman as Chris Murphy.
