Fans of the “Harry Potter” book series may be excited to learn that author J.K. Rowling hasn’t ruled out writing book 8 in the series. It has been nearly a decade since the release of the last book in the series that was believed to be the last.

J.K. Rowling was in New York to promote her charity organisation Lumos that helps children in orphanages. The celebrity author told Today that she has never said that she won’t be writing another “Harry Potter” book. “I’m not going to say I definitely won’t,” she reportedly said about the eighth book in the series.

“You know, it’s my world and I might choose to step back into it,” J.K. Rowling teased. Most of the stories in the “Harry Potter” series take place in a magical land that exists parallel to the real world, and the protagonist keeps going back and forth from the real world to the land of magic.

The author pointed out that the spinoff book based in the same magical world, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” is being made into a movie, and J.K. Rowling has written the script for this upcoming movie. The spinoff book is set about 70 years before the events in the “Harry Potter” books. Rowling, however, did not reveal what the next book would be about.

J.K. Rowling said that she felt that she had “wrapped the story up” for the “Harry Potter” series and she emphasised that the next book in the series will not be a continuation of the story of the major characters like Ron and Hermione. The last book in the series ended with the characters having grown up, getting married and taking their children to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

“Harry Potter” book 8 may not be out any time soon, as J.K. Rowling has confirmed that she has not been working on the next book in the series in the past few years. The author did not want to give false hopes to the fans but also did not want to rule out the possibility of working on another book in the future.
