Ed Sheeran is banned from travelling after a yacht accident damaged his eardrum. Likewise, the British crooner has been advised to undergo surgery to repair the damage on his ear.

While on his tour at the Gold Coast, Sheeran dropped by for a quick interview with Australia’s radio station Nova FM. There he detailed the events during a beach excursion that lead to his accident.

The accident reportedly happened earlier this year when he joined a friend’s birthday celebration in Spain. They rented out a yacht to “escape all the pandemonium.” The 24-year old recalled having a good time until he decided to jump off from the yacht into the sea.

“I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum. I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it,” he said.

He said he didn’t realise the damage to his ear until he took another dive into the sea again. It reportedly felt very sore when the salt water poured through his ear.

"That was on holidays and I didn't realise what happened until I went in water again and it's the most painful thing having a hole in your ear drum and having water go in,” he said during his interview with Australia’s Nova FM.

The damage is said to be so severe that he has to undergo a surgery come January. The singer revealed he has to have his skin grafted. The operation means he is “not allowed to fly for a while” to prevent further damaging his eardrum. However, this didn’t dampen the “Thinking Out Loud” singer’s mood and considered the operation as a good thing since he’d get to just stay at home.

This is reportedly not the first time that the British singer has injured himself. According to The Sun, he also cut his hand while attempting to open a beer bottle using a lighter. Sheeran revealed he had slashed his hand last year. The bottle reportedly just shattered on his hand.

The “A Team” singer is nearing the end of his Australia and New Zealand tour, which kicked off in 2014. Sheeran will be back to his native United Kingdom on Saturday.
