“Castle” Season 7 finale is drawing near; production has started filming the last episode of the current season. Stana Katic, who plays Det. Kate Beckett, continues to post BTS (behind-the-scene) photos amid increasing talks of Season 8 renewal. There is no new episode this week; episode 20 (“Sleeper”) airs next Monday, April 20 on ABC.

The “Castle” Season 7 finale is likely to contain “some sort of cliffhanger,” show boss David Amann told TV Guide. Amann noted the writers are taking the story focus back to Beckett, and this “might play strongly in the end.”

Episode 20 is the start of the final four episodes of “Castle” Season 7. From “Sleeper,” the Castle 7x20 episode title, somebody’s subconscious mind may come into play. The episode synopsis says Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) takes clues about his 2-month disappearance from his dreams.

For her part, Stana Katic earlier promised on Twitter that she would post “Castle” Season 7 BTS photos on Instagram until she completes filming her scenes on April 17. Her latest post carries this caption: “BTS 14: Goodnight, Precinct.”

BTS 14 shows Kate Beckett looking pensive, alone by her desk at NYPD’s 12th Precinct. This BTS photo has so far drawn over 15,000 “likes” and over 500 comments. Some fans are taking this as a sign that “Castle” Season 8 renewal may not happen.

In the same TV Guide report, Seamus Dever, who plays Det. Kevin Ryan, said no one has given him any idea about the likelihood of ABC renewal or “Castle” Season 8. The actor told TV Guide he would also like to know the status, implying fans should stand by for the official announcements, too.

“Castle” Season 7 crew started filming the finale episode on April 8, according to this Twitter post from writer-producer Terri Edda Miller. Miller’s husband, “Castle” creator Andrew W. Marlowe, has not been as active in updating his Twitter followers.

There has been no definitive announcement from ABC regarding “Castle” Season 8. Other TV entertainment sites are confident Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion will renew their contract, eventually. In a TVLine report earlier this year, ABC president Paul Lee said the procedural dramedy “will be coming back.”
