A plane with a failure on its landing gear was forced to land in Brisbane airport around 2:30 a.m. (AEST). The Toll Aviation freight plane set off an hour before the crew has informed the ground staff regarding the problem with the plane's landing gear.

A test flight was done with the plane after it was checked for maintenance. However, the ground staff received the updates regarding its landing gear problem a bit too late.

For the emergency landing, the main runway of the airport was closed for about three hours. The incident has caused delays and cancellations of some expected flights during that day.

Emergency staffs are on full alert while the landing has been worked on. Luckily, the twin engine freighter landed safe and sound. No one was hurt. The pilot and student pilot got out safely.

Engineers have decided to land the plane with wheels up. But before they have made such a decision, they had to go through two fly-overs.

An investigation of the incident was conducted by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB). The investigators had to take away the cockpit and black box voice recorders.

According to Rebecca Masci, spokeswoman of Brisbane Airport Corporation, authorities have already checked the plane and voice recorders have already been taken out. Full authorization has been approved.

Earlier today, everything went back to normal. The main runway was opened after it has been totally cleared from the inspection. The airport has resumed normal operations early in the morning - quarter to 6:00 a.m. Delays, however, are still ongoing.

The spokeswoman said the incident triggered the idea of having another runway to be designed for huge planes. She said work will most likely start this year. The planned development of the second runway will help in the airports smooth aircraft operations.

Travellers especially businessmen attending seminars and business meetings in Melbourne don't have a choice, but to go home and wait for another schedule.

The Brisbane Airport Corporation will have a difficult time in the absence of a second runway due to the big operations that the establishment is currently running, also according to Masci.
