Ronda Rousey’s run as a dominant force in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) came on a crashing end as she was upset by challenger and relative unknown Holly Holm in their match-up in the main event of the UFC 193 at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

The 34-year-old Holm, who entered the fight as the huge underdog, bucked the odds on fight night landing effective counters against Rousey in the opening round. At the 0:59 mark of the second round, Holm landed a left kick on Rousey’s neck and face area to send Rousey to the ground and the referee stopped the fight as Holm rained punches on Rousey.

Nicknamed “The Preacher's Daughter”, Holm was declared winner via technical knockout (TKO) and became the new UFC champion in the women's bantamweight division. More importantly for Holm, she gave Rousey her first defeat in her UFC career as the 28-year-old Rousey dropped to 12-1 after the disappointing loss.

Holm’s victory is considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of mixed martial arts. Rousey will remain one of the top contenders in the division and a rematch with Holm is likely in the future.

Holm, who was also a champion boxer and kickboxer, improved to 10-0-0 in her UFC career with 7 of 10 wins coming by way of KO/TKO.
