Fans are eagerly anticipating the new season of CBS’ highly popular police drama “Blue Bloods,” but it looks like they have to wait for a few more months before season 7 airs.

In its official Twitter account, the show announced the show will return to the small screen in the US on September 23, 2016 at 10/9c for its seventh season. There are no new developments yet with regard to the “Blue Bloods” cast members, which include Frank (Tom Selleck) and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) Jamie (Will Estes), Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Henry (Len Cariou), Linda (Amy Carlson), Nicky (Sami Gayle), Det. Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) and Officer Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray).

Followers of the Reagan family hope that the upcoming installment will be more exciting than what they consider a lackluster season 6 finale. On May 6, “Blue Bloods” wrapped up its sixth season, composed of 22 episodes. Titled “Blowback,” the final episode dealt with a relevant and controversial issue: an officer embroiled in a case of shooting unarmed man. Frank and Erin, along with the mayor and the DA office found themselves on the receiving end of a public outrage after the erring policeman goes scot-free. There was an insinuation that Frank might be resigning from his post. As a result of the incident, he did file for resignation, but the mayor did not accept it.

With an average viewership of more than 10 million households per episode, it was no surprise that “Blue Bloods” was renewed for another season. In March, it was announced that CBS has renewed the show, to the delight of its solid fan base. The network said it’s bringing back the series along with 10 other shows, according to a report by Variety. With a few months before the seventh season begins, followers are speculating about the possible storylines.

One plot has sent “Blue Bloods” fans abuzz: the prospect of Frank finding romance in season 7. Entertainment site CarterMatt has raised the question of introducing a love interest for Frank. According to the site, the inclusion of the next Mrs Frank Reagan would send the message to its viewers that love conquers age. More than 76 per cent of the respondents agreed it’s time for Frank to get paired off with a worthy lady. It seems followers of “Blue Bloods” want the lead character to move on – after all, it has been years since his late wife, Mary Margaret Reagan, succumbed to cancer.
