Big Brother Australia has had a jam-packed weekend with the first ever Showdown for 2013 taking place and the faux marriage that is Drade being outed. The housemates were all pumped up and ready for the explosive Showdown premiere, but only one of them claimed victory.

The game on Saturday night started out with two equally divided teams. Team Purple consisted of Ben, Caleb, Ed, Matthew, Mikkayla, Tahan, and Tully, while Team Orange included Drew, Jade, Jasmin, Heidi, Sharon, Tim, and Xavier.

For the first game, Jade and Tahan were both suspended over a water tank held up by their respective teammates. The first team to drop their teammate into the water would be eliminated. Big Brother instructed one from each team at the same time to let go of the rope, leaving the rest to carry on until only one person was holding the rope.

As it happened, it was Matthew holding Tahan for Team Purple, and fake husband Drew holding his fake wife Jade for Team Orange.

Drew, like Jade, appeared calm and collected at first. It seemed that he could very well hold her on his own while Matthew was visibly struggling in his grasp. But when Big Brother instructed them to only use one hand, he dropped the rope after 15 minutes, sending his “wife” plummeting into the tank, which had been filled with eels.

Team Orange members were eliminated, except for Jade, who was told to join the surviving group, totalling the members to eight. Then again, the group was divided into two, with Jade, Matthew, Mikkayla, and Tahan on Team Orange, and Ben, Caleb, Ed, and Tully on the new Team Purple.

The second game required each team to collect letters from the ball pit and spell out a word, starting with specific letters and answering the given categories. Two blindfolded members from each team were tasked to pick the letters from the pit, one was to cross the obstacle course to form the words, and another one (Mikkayla for Team Orange and Tully for Team Purple) was to instruct pickers on what letters to pick.

English teacher Mikkayla proved that she really knew her letters, leading her teammates to victory.

For the third game, the four remaining housemates – Mikkayla, Tahan, Jade, and Matthew – were wrapped from shoulders to legs in cling wrap and left lying on the ground. The first three to stand on their feet and go to the mat would win. Mikkayla was left struggling, while the rest successfully wriggled onto their feet.

With three left, Big Brother told the survivors to build the highest tower of cards. Tahan couldn’t get pass the first level, while Jade easily towered her fellow players with her cards. But alas! Her tower came crashing down after the first minute, leaving Matthew to reign supreme.

As the winner, the ex-infantry soldier from Queensland, who was wearing Mikkayla’s hot pink shorts specifically for the game, got a night for two in the presidential suite of the Big Brother house, which he later spent with his best bud Caleb. He also received $5,000 in cash, plus a nominations superpower.

Meanwhile, Drade – Drew and Jade – were outed by Big Brother himself

Just when they thought they had their dubious housemates’ doubts erased, Drew and Jade once again weren’t able to fend off the others’ suspicions. Sharon, the ex-cop mum of three, didn’t even think Drade’s wedding rings were real.

Perhaps to save the housemates from further snooping and to allow Drade to put their guards down once and for all, Big Brother exposed the sham.

So what will happen now that the housemates knew that Drew and Jade weren’t really married?

“Big Brother Australia” continues Monday night on Channel Nine with the addition of three latecomer housemates.
