The tapes of Mel Gibson recorded by Oksana Grigorieva while he was screaming violently at her were subpoenaed by the police.

They were seized because of the evidence that Gibson harmed his ex-girlfriend and baby mama physically, according to RadarOnline.com.

The LA Sheriff's Department has subpoenaed the DVD that Oksana made of the tapes, which were submitted to the court on July 5.

"LASD investigators formally subpoenaed the DVD as part of their ongoing criminal investigation involving Mel Gibson. The DVD is currently under seal in the ongoing custody case which has been assigned to Judge Scott Gordon," a source close to the investigation said.

"Judge Gordon will have to comply with the subpoena and turn it over to law enforcement. The subpoena itself will not be made public as it's part of an ongoing investigation."
