Chinese funeral is known for its conservatism and sticking to tradition because of a lot of beliefs and superstitions about the after-life. As a result, cremation is not popular among Chinese, even as many cities in China are running out of space where to bury the dead,

However, in Taiwan, a widow made the unusual decision of hiring two female strippers for her dead husband’s funeral, reports the New York Daily News. The widow, identified only as Mrs Jian, said it is her final gift to her husband who she acknowledged loved pretty women when he was alive.

The two strippers wore white and knee-high boots to the funeral on Sunday, reports The People’s Daily. They performed the “coffin leather dance” while three songs were playing. One of the songs was Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," according to Bustle. They removed a towel wrapped on their torso and revealed bikinis to surprised mourners. The performance is called Electric Flower Car.

The report said the stripper gyrated around and on the coffin, resulting in some mourners taking out their mobile phones and filming the surprise strip show. After the dance, the funeral returned to a somber mode as drumbeats accompanied the hearse to the graveyard.

The newspaper said exotic dances at funerals in Taiwan began in the 1980s. Most of these funerals happened when the person being buried had ties with organised crimes. University of South Carolina anthropologist Marc Moskowitz made in 2011 a documentary on the exotic funeral dances. His docu was titled “Dancing for the Dead: Funeral Strippers in Taiwan.”
