A theme has been decided for this year's World Cancer Day. The creation of the theme was inspired by the thought of cutting down 25% of the total rate of premature deaths brought by cancer until 2025 through the combined efforts of every individual, organization, government agencies and NGOs.

World Cancer Day 2012 will be marked on Feb. 4 with the aim of increasing awareness regarding the worldwide impact of cancer as well as good comprehension on the detection, medication, prevention and care.

Cancer is considered one of the major causes of death across the world. The World Health Organization published a report showing 13% (7.6 million) of the total death (58 million) around the world in 2005 were caused by cancer. Typical types of cancer that contributes to the huge percentage of cancer deaths include the lung (1,3 million deaths/yr.), stomach (almost 1 million deaths/yr.), liver (662 000 deaths/yr.), colon (655 000 deaths/yr.) and breast (502 000 deaths/yr.).

A specialist of Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant, Dr. Amit Dhiman, from the Department of Medical Oncology at SPS Apollo Hospital, while referring to the new theme which is "Together It Is Possible," said a new independent proof verifies that the major cause of having high risked cancer is the rising worldwide trend of sedentary and unhealthy lifestyles. Millions of people obtained cancer from unhealthy living.

Dr. Dhiman also emphasized the new estimates revealed by the WCRF or World Cancer Research Fund regarding battling with or preventing cancer. The figures suggest that people must exercise and maintain a healthy diet to reduce the threat of typical cancers. A healthy living can reduce cancer risks by 30% or more. Regardless of the age, people must learn to perform physical activities to keep a healthy body. Exercising is one effective way in reducing the risk of cancers including non-communicable ailments.
