“Vikings” season 5 promo has been revealed, and it shows Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen) weeping at Sigurd’s (David Lindstrom) funeral. Showrunner Michael Hirst has revealed in an interview that Ivar would regret what happened as he never wanted to kill his brother.

The finale episode of season 4 of “Vikings” observed shocking death of one of the prominent characters. Hirst had stated earlier that death would come to important people. However, fans didn’t expect that death will come to Sigurd. They thought Hvitserk (Stephen Rockett) among the Lothbrok brothers was most likely to die. Hence, what happened in episode 20 has left the viewers in shock.

The last episode didn’t exactly show Sigurd dying. In the last shot, his eyes were shown wide open. While many suspect that he may not have died, Hirst has confirmed about his death.

“It was supposed be a kind of shock, even to those who try to follow things on Wikipedia. This isn’t a documentary, it’s a drama. And I just wanted to demonstrate the total volatility of these relationships — and certainly introduce Ivar as a guy who will not back down, ever,” Hirst told Screener TV.

Sigurd and Ivar have never shared good camaraderie with each other. Their opinions clashed many times in the past. The recent instance was when Ivar wanted to kill Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) to take revenge of mother Aslaug’s (Alyssa Sutherland) death, and Sigurd was not in the mood to fight.

Furthermore, in "Vikings" season 4 finale episode, both of them indulged in an argument, trying to defame each other. While Ivar called Sigurd gay, the latter called him mummy’s boy who crawls like a snake on the ground. Were these reasons provocative enough to lead Ivar kill Sigurd? If yes, then why was he shocked and perplexed after throwing a battleaxe that hit Sigurd in his stomach?

According to Hirst, Ivar never wanted to kill his brother. He would be seen weeping at his funeral in “Vikings” season 5 episode 1. “I think if memory serves season 5 begins with the burial of Sigurd, and Ivar is weeping and saying he never meant to do it,” Hirst told Variety.

Moreover, “Vikings” season 5 promo also shows the same. Ivar can be seen with tears in his eyes during Sigurd’s funeral. (Watch the promo below.)

The promo also shows Lagertha once again going to the Seer (John Kavanagh) to know what waits in the future for the Vikings. The Seer tells her, “The consequences of Ragnar’s death are not yet played out. You have only seen the beginning of the end. Now prepare yourselves for what is to come.” She asks, “What is to come, tell me?” The Seer asks, “Do you suppose you could change your fate if you knew it?”

A lot of surprises wait for the Vikings in the next season. While King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) and King Ecbert (Linus Roache) are dead, the Lothbrok brothers are not aware that Prince Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) is the new king who is ready to reclaim his land.

Furthermore, new character Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has been introduced, who is a great threat to Vikings, especially to Ivar. (Read more about Heahmund on the link below.)

“Vikings” season 5 promo has shown that the story of Ragnar and his sons isn’t over yet. There’s more in store for the viewers. The story will now revolve around the Lothbrok brothers. It will show how Bjorn and Ivar will become more famous than Ragnar, and Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) as well will try to fulfil his father’s dream. (Read more on the links below.)
