“Vikings” season 4 episode 16 will not be the same without Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) presence but the story from now will get interesting. Since the central character has died in the show, other characters will now rise to power. Apart from Ivar, who will take revenge for his father’s death, his brothers including Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) will also join the mission.

Bjorn and Ivar will become more famous than Ragnar

Alex Hogh Adersen (Ivar) revealed in the past that his character will gain power in the forthcoming episodes. Now, after the death of Ragnar, Ivar will lead the group to take revenge of his father’s death.

Ragnar quite evidently planned his own death and so he took Ivar along with him. On his journey, he made sure that Ivar learns enough from his father to avenge his death later on. The two greatest lessons that Ivar got from Ragnar were to use his anger intelligently and to turn his disease into his stregnth.

Going by the history of the saga, not only Ivar but also Bjorn will become more popular than Ragnar. The same was reflected by “Vikings” showrunner Michael Hirst. “This is my saga of Ragnar and his sons. Historically speaking, Ivar and Bjorn did actually become more famous than Ragnar,” he told Variety. Hirst followed the original saga for Ragnar’s death. Similarly, it is expected that he will also follow Ivar and Bjorn’s journey to become popular.

When will Ragnar’s sons take revenge?

According to Hirst, Ragnar’s brothers will return for revenge in the very next episode. “Bjorn will return. All the sons will be part of what was called the Great Heathen Army,” Hirst said, adding that the process would begin in “Vikings” season 4 episode 16 itself.

Who will be hit hardest by Ragnar’s death?

Hirst was also asked as to who will be hit the hardest by Ragnar’s death and his answer was not surprising – King Ecbert (Linus Roache). The revenge against the king has already been planned. Furthermore, Hirst added that Ragnar’s death will cause a profound effect on Ragnar’s sons. However, it will give them a purpose in life – to avenge their father’s death.

“Vikings” season 4 episode 16, the first episode after Ragnar’s death, will air on Jan. 4 at 9PM ET. The season is slated to air in Australia on SBS One from Jan. 11 at 8:30PM.
