Three Movies That Inspired Real-Life Murders: 'Scream', 'Natural Born Killers' And 'The Ten Commandments'
On Jan. 21, 2015, YouTube video blogger Rob Dyke published a video titled "Movies That Inspired MURDER | SERIOUSLY STRANGE", a video made in collaboration with Dylan Dubeau, another YouTube personality. The video discusses three movies and the way they had inspired three individuals in committing the act of murder.
In the video, Dyke says, "For some, movies are an escape from reality. For others, they are an inspiration for murder."
He starts with Wes Craven's cult classic "Scream" and goes into detail about how the movie had inspired a Belgian truck driver named Thierry Jaradin to murder 15-year-old Alisson Cambier while he wore a "Scream" costume back in 2001.
The show's host continues to tell the story of Heinrich Pommerenke, a serial rapist-turned-murderer who had committed his first murder after watching the movie "The Ten Commandments." Dyke explains that Pommerenke was greatly affected by a scene in the movie where women danced and swore to murder women from the moment he exited the theatre.
Next is Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers," a movie that inspired cocaine user Jeremy Allan Steinke to murder his then 12-year-old girlfriend's father, mother and brother in Medicine Hat, Alberta back in 2006. Steinke and his girlfriend apparently role-played the characters Bonnie and Clyde as they went to committing the murder.
"Most of us have favorite movies to watch; they make us feel something special that other movies just don't," Dyke says near the end of the video. "But the question is whether or not your mind can keep reality on one side of the screen, and fantasy on the other."
"Movies That Inspired MURDER | SERIOUSLY STRANGE" has gotten over 7,000 thumbs-up to date. Watch the video here.
