New theories about “Star Wars: Episode 8” look at how long Rey’s training will last and how Kylo Ren’s past can be explored. There is no time gap between movies this time around, so the upcoming film will pickup from right where “The Force Awakens” left off.

[Spoiler alert]

After Rey (Daisy Ridley) found out that she is Force sensitive she met with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in the J.J. Abrams movie. Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is afraid of the new Jedi rising in the galaxy, and this is exactly what is expected to happen in the upcoming movie.

‘Star Wars: Episode 8’: Rey’s training

Luke is the last Jedi, and he is expected to show Rey the ways of the Force. A new theory posted on the YouTube channel of Mike Zeroh looks at how long this training will last.

Mike points out that Luke’s training under Master Yoda in “Empire Strikes Back” lasted for about a week, and this translated into screen time of about 7 minutes. According to his theory, Rey’s training will last two months in the story and this could mean a screen time of about 8 minutes.

‘Star Wars: Episode 8’: Kylo Ren flashback

Another video by Mike looks at how Kylo Ren’s (Adam Driver) back story could be explored in the film. As a lot of details about his past could be revealed though flash backs, Mike believes Rian Johnson could use the technique used in the “Godfather” sequel. The popular film had two timelines, one in the past about Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) and the other in present time about Michael (Al Pacino).

Mike says that it will be interesting to see how Ben Solo turned into Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: Episode 8.” The character could have formed a group of young Jedi and turned them to the Dark Side of the Force, this group could have eventually become the Knights of Ren, according to the theory.
