Dean and Shay Paine became the winners of “The Block: The Blocktagon” after their penthouse apartment was auctioned for a whopping AU$2.3 million.

Wednesday night’s Grand Finale on Nine saw the Newcastle couple’s penthouse sell for AU$655,000 above its reserve price. The Paines have also won an extra $100,000 in addition to AU$655,000 as prize money.

The couple had applied three times before they were called to compete on “The Block: The Blocktagon.” According to news.com.au, they were the hot favourites to win the series, with bookies and property experts predicting the married couple would win the competition.

Luke and Ebony won the second place and missed out on the top prize by just AU$15,000. In the final auction of the night, their sub-penthouse apartment sold for AU$2.2m, a whooping AU$640,000 more than the reserve price.

The third place went to Caro and Kingi. In the first auction of the night, their level two apartment sold for AU$1.735 million, giving them a profit of AU$405,000.

The Townsville pair’s graffiti-inspired property was purchased by Queensland’s Mater Foundation for the Mater Prize Home, to be offered as a prize in an upcoming charity lottery.

Andrew and Whitney came fourth and took home AU$390,000. While Suzi and Vonni walked away with a AU$349,000 profit and came fifth

A total of AU$2,539,000 was taken home by the five couples. Unlike other seasons, everyone was a winner in Season 11 of the "The Block."

Nine recently announced “The Block” will return for its twelfth series in 2016, although the details about the new property has not been revealed.

The Season 11 finale of "The Block" saw more than 1.8 million people tuning in to watch, according to Ad News.

“The Block” is an Australian reality television series that airs on the Nine Network. The series follows four or five couples as they compete against each other to renovate houses/apartments and sell them at auction for the highest price.
