Mammoths are believed to have gone extinct about 10,000 years ago but scientists are considering bringing them back to the modern day world. This develops after the frozen remains of the Ice Age animal was found in the Arctic Ocean.

The scientists were pleased to find some liquid blood in the remains of the mammoth, according to a report by theprovince.com. The scientists are also seeing the possible studies they can do with the carcass, which happens to be in good shape. Cloning is reportedly being considered by Russian scientists.

"The blood is very dark, it was found in ice cavities below the belly and when we broke these cavities with a poll pick, the blood came running out," said Semyon Grigoryev, the head of the Mammoth Museum.

Grigoryev led the expedition into the Lyakhovsky Islands off the Siberian coast. It was -7 to - 10 degrees Celsius cold at the time. He noted the blood of the mammoth appeared to be freezing-resistant. Perhaps that is how they kept themselves warm, the scientists theorized.

Mammoths are characterized by their long, curved tusks. Northern species don a covering of relatively long hair. The extinct genus is called Mammuthus. The largest known mammoth species grew to about 4 m (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighed in up to 8 tonnes.

The woolly mammoth (M. primigenius), the same species found at the Artic, was the last species of the genus.

From the wooly mammoth's hair, scientists have been able to decipher its genetic code. This is why some scientists have brought the idea of cloning, if only living cells could be found.

Do you think scientists should be cloning mammoths in this day and age?
