'Ray Donovan' season 3, episode 5 recap: Ray draws a wedge between Paige and Finney in 'Handshake Deal'

“Ray Donovan” Season 3 episode 5, titled “Handshake Deal,” aired on Sunday at 9 p.m. on Showtime. It is about the bad blood brewing between Paige (Katie Holmes and her father Andrew Finney (Ian McShane). Ray’s (Liev Schreiber) new mission leads to further conflict between the two Finneys.
Paige asks Ray to stop working for her father. Ray tells her that they already have a deal. Paige tells Ray that she will offer him a better deal and he can also name his price. Ray, however, did not seem persuaded and reminded Paige that he works for her father. Paige might be able to change Ray’s mind, in effect, making events unravel in a completely different way in the third season of “Ray Donovan.” She even kisses Ray in this episode.
Ray has found himself torn in the middle of the Finneys before and it looks as if it will be a recurring theme this season. Paige previously called Ray in to help deal with a quiz show presenter, but was soon reminded by the elder Finney that Ray works for him and not for her. Paige brought investors into the studio but was enraged when her father said that he was not going to sell. Paige was able to change her father’s mind but warned Ray that he would be told lies about her to convince him to hurt her.
Mickey, portrayed by Jon Voight dreams of throwing a proper welcome home party for Terry (Eddie Marsan) but he eventually faces reality. Conor (Devon Bagby) brings some girls to the house and things immediately went out of hand. Meanwhile, Abby (Paula Malcomson) visits her sister in Boston.
Abby goes home to Ray after a deal with her sister doesn’t push through. MIckey also tells Ray that he’s available for him whenever he wants to have a chat. Bunchy (Dash Mihok) prays with the chaplain for some comfort.
