Sony has revealed that its Project Morpheus virtual reality headset – which has already been slated for an official release during the first half of 2016 – will be costing “several hundred dollars.” This device might be expensive, but Shuhei Yoshida, the Sony President of Worldwide Studios, is confident that they will be able to convince tech users to spend their money on the headset.

“We need to convince PS4 owners to spend several hundred dollars to purchase a Morpheus headset, on top of the PS4 they already have,” Yoshida told Wired. “And, more gaming content is what will convince them. We have 30 or more games being developed that we are tracking – not all of them will come out at launch – but there are serious efforts being made on all of them.”

The “several hundred dollars” amount that Yoshida amount confirmed is still vague. It could mean more than two, or it could also mean reaching up to a range of $500 to $900. A retailer from Australia had posted on the Internet earlier this month that Sony’s Morpheus is priced at $450. However, Sony has neither denied nor confirmed this pricing.

Although there has been no actual confirmation about the price – except for admitting it will be “several hundred dollars” – Yoshida told Polygon that the pricing will drop after some time.

“The number of people who will buy day one hardware will be some kind of reverse function of price, that we understand,” he said. “But, we really need to do it right from day one.”

The vague pricing is apparently because Sony has focused its product development on giving high quality VR unit that are comfortable to use, instead of focusing on the price point.

At the recent E3 event, or Electronic Entertainment Expo, which was held in Los Angeles, Sony introduced which games will be featured for its Project Morpheus device. According to the announcement, Project Morpheus can be used to enjoy “Godling” by Solfar Studios, ‘The Deep,” and “EVE: Valkyrie” by CCP Studios.
