Powerball Jackpot Grows To $226 Million

The Powerball drawing on Wednesday night did not yield a grand prize winner for the estimated $211 million jackpot with a cash value of $153.9 million.

The next drawing will now take place on Saturday with the jackpot climbing to an estimated $226 million with a $164.8 million cash value.

The winning lottery numbers drawn on Wednesday, Aug. 4, were 5, 21, 32, 36, 58, with a red Powerball of 14. The Power Play was 2X.

Although there was no grand prize winner for the latest Powerball drawing, two players managed to become instant millionaires. A player from Michigan and a player from New York hit the Match 5 and won $1 million each. If the players would have hit the Match 5 using the Power Play, they could have won a $2 million prize.

There were also several smaller prize winners as a result of Wednesday's Powerball drawing. There were 12 players who hit the Match 4 plus red Powerball and won $50,000 each. Meanwhile, one player hit the Match 4 plus red Powerball with a Power Play, winning $100,000.

The rest of the winnings from the latest lottery drawing ranged between $4 and $200.

Players who hit the Powerball jackpot have the choice of receiving their winnings through a one-time lump sum payment or as an annuity. Winners who select the annuity receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, which increase by 5% each year.

Powerball can be played in 45 states, including Washington, D.C., as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Starting Monday, Aug. 23, Powerball will be adding another weekly drawing that will give players another chance to try their luck at securing the jackpot.

While the additional lottery drawing is not expected to increase the odds of winning, the Powerball Product Group believes it will help the jackpots grow faster.
