Organisations will need to adopt new ways of attracting OHS talent as a survey shows the majority of OHS professionals are not looking for new opportunities.

According to National Safety Recruitment's Inaugural Salary Survey 2011, 68% of OHS professionals either 'like' or 'love' their jobs and are not seeking work elsewhere.

Only 9% of respondents said they were actively seeking a new role and only 26% said they were seeking an increase in salary.

The survey included data from 556 organisations across 26 defined industries including construction, mining, oil & gas, manufacturing and transport & logistics.

Managing director of National Safety Recruitment Duane Tonkin said that organisations will need to adopt innovative ways of attracting and retaining top candidates.

"With the majority of OHS professionals more concerned with career progression and a genuine commitment to Safety and Environmental management as opposed to chasing significantly higher salaries, employers are going to have to work a lot harder to demonstrate their commitment," he said.

49% of respondents indicated that if they were to seek new opportunities, career progression would be the primary reason for doing so.

Only 13% of respondents were working on a casual basis or as contractors, with 87% working in a permanent capacity.
