ABC News' Kimberly Launier witnessed what can only be described as a striking coincidence while taping an ordinary "20/20" segment.

She was filming the parents of soldier Justin Rollins on an overcast day at Newport, N.H., when something happened that made her "think about life and death."

Skip and Rhonda Rollins were playing with Hero, a dog rescued from Iraq, when the dog wandered off. As they saw Hero in the backyard, the gloomy clouds parted, allowing for a single beam of light to envelop the dog.

It was a picture that none of them could forget and a moment that was fraught with emotion. Just as quickly as it happened, the light vanished, and it was all that Launier could do to keep standing.

Prior to the incident, Rhonda would hold Hero's face and softly ask if her son was somehow there, inside of pet. "Are you there, Justin?" Rhonda would ask, a way of connecting to her son's last living connection of sorts. After the episode, Launier had to wonder if the soldier was indeed trying to reconnect with his loved ones.

"I couldn't wait to check my camera's playback to see if it caught the stunning beam. When I saw that it did, I was so happy that I burst out dancing. It was a great moment to share with Justin's parents. We all laughed together, and wondered if perhaps this had been a sign from Justin," the producer said on ABC News' site.

Hero made news Thursday when Launier reported on the extraordinary circumstances that Justin's family made to bring home Hero. The then puppy racked impressive flyer miles, flying from Iraq through Bahrain, Brussels and New York and finally, New Hampshire. Hero continues to give joy and hope to the Rollins family.
