By leaving the Denver Broncos for the Jacksonville Jaguars, tight end Julius Thomas can earn $46 million over five years in the latest news in the offseason of the National Football League, or NFL.

Earlier in the offseason, Thomas’ agent, Frank Bauer said in an interview that the some in the Broncos camp are pushing away his client from the franchise. Initial reports state that the Broncos were willing to give Thomas $40 million over five years but Thomas’ side wanted more. With the new deal from the Jaguars, Thomas is set to earn more according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network.

Thomas, who was one of the top tight ends in the entire league in the 2014 season will have $21 million guaranteed in his deal with the Jaguars. Thomas was with the Broncos from 2012 to 2014 and made the NFL Pro Bowl team twice in 2013 and 2014.

Thomas was a key player in the Broncos’ AFC championship squad and is the first tight end in the history of the NFL to have at least a dozen touchdowns in two consecutive seasons. For his NFL career, Thomas has 1,282 receiving yards on 109 catches with 24 touchdowns. The 25 year old tight end was a fourth round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and missed most of his rookie year because various injuries.

Thomas was one of the veteran quarterback Peyton Manning’s favourite targets during his stint in Denver. Aside from the Broncos, other NFL teams like the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders have also showed interest in acquiring Thomas in this offseason.
