A new online heart health age test developed by Professor John Deanfiels, a cardiologist at National Health Service or NHS, can predict when are you likely to suffer from a heart attack. The NHS "Heart Age Calculator" deduces the age of a person's heart as compared to his real age, based on the lifestyle information that he will provide during the test.

The online tests ask the user to provide vital statistics and lifestyle information such as age, weight, smoking habits, area of living, height, history of diseases, including diabetes, kidney malfunction, rheumatoid arthritis and family history of specific diseases.

The ultimate aim of this tool is to raise awareness among people about the changes that they need to make around their lifestyle habits to keep their heart healthy and safe. According to the sources, the general practitioners will be encouraged in the future to inform their patients about the online test, however, some have pointed out that it may scare them off and they might start taking pills by themselves.

NHS statistics reveal that coronary heart disease (CHD), being the leading cause for deaths worldwide, kills nearly 73,000 people every year in the UK.

Deanfield believes that the online test available to the public will help reduce the number of deaths per year due to CHD by raising awareness about the need to change the lifestyle habits.

"Understanding your heart age can be a real wake up call for people who might be at risk," said Deanfield, reported Huffington Post.
