“NCIS” Season 12 airs a new episode this Tuesday, April 14, on CBS. Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) takes Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) to Afghanistan, while Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) is unhappy about an announcement concerning Tim McGee (Sean Murray).

Spoiler alert: This update contains “NCIS” Season 12 spoilers. Read on at your own risk.

In “NCIS” Season 12, the case of the week involves terrorists holding a Marine hostage. The new episode title, “Lost in Translation,” hints at some challenges in communication.

Meanwhile, Tony is unhappy to learn that McGee is appearing as “face of the NCIS” in the agency's recruitment brochures. In an “NCIS” Season 8 episode, Tony was going to be the face of NCIS until things changed. The NCIS PR people chose a photo of Gibbs instead.

In the abovementioned episode, Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) consoles Tony and points out that, at least, his shoulder is seen in Gibbs’ NCIS poster. Now, in “NCIS” Season 12, McGee gets a PR shot before DiNozzo could; the new episode synopsis says DiNozzo “gets upset” about this.

“NCIS” Season 12 is taking another short hiatus after airing episode 21. The next new episode, titled “Troll,” airs on April 28. The procedural drama is reportedly airing 24 episodes this season.

It remains to be seen whether Gibbs and Bishop’s trip to Afghanistan will lead to a bigger storyline that extends up to the “NCIS” Season 12 finale. Episode 21 may be a one-off show, but there are no spoiler reports that announces such for sure.

What’s certain, according to a TV scoop, is that the “NCIS” Season 12 finale has some “shocking surprises.” Show boss Gary Glasberg told TVLine the events in this year’s finale “will leave everyone speechless.”
